A Teacher's Guide to Roman Caerleon (Spiral bound)


Almost 2000 years ago, the Roman Empire dominated the civilized world. Britain was its furthest outpost and in AD 75, a fortress was built at Caerleon that would guard the region for over 200 years. Today, at the National Roman Legion Museum you can learn what made the Romans such a formidable force. You'll see how they lived, slept and ate: how they marched and practiced for battle; which gods the worshipped and what jewels they wore. you can visit the Amphitheatre, where spectators watched real Gladiators battle to the death. This resource pack will guide teachers and schoolgroups around the Barracks and all the buildings in which soldiers lived; it provides background information and suggestions for activities on-site and in the classroom. This pack contains: A3 colour booklet, with 12 images showing imaginative reconstructions of life in Roman times; a booklet explaining the background to various aspects of Roman life at the Barracks, with suggested questions, answers and activities; and Roman-style measuring stick. It is produced by National Museum Wales, 2005.
