Brother, I feel that I ought to have written to you before this,
but 'tis difficult often times with me to know how or what to
write, for I invariably find such opposition arise in my mind that
I am at a loss to know how to put two sentences together, and then
I put it off and think I shall be better able to do so at another
time, but alas, I find that is not the case; for I generally have
to begin with nothing to say, and sometimes I have found my
nothingness to be the beginning of something that has made my pen
run alone far beyond my expectation and sometimes I have felt it
good to convey my thoughts to you, knowing you are no stranger to
the workings of Sin and Satan in our heart. Oh what a mercy my
brother that Jesus Chiist came into this world to save sinners, to
destroy the works of the Devil, and to deliver poor undone mortals
from His infernal power and rage: he is indeed an unwearied enemy.
Mr. Hart speaking of pride, which is the very spirit of Satan,
says, "It puffs us glad, Torments us sad; Its hold we cannot
break." No, no, my brother, our proud hearts tako sides with the
devil and listen to his flattery and lies rather than resist him
with a steadfast confidence in the God of our salvation, falling
down as it were as nothing at His feet that He might be all in all.
How true is that scripture where Jesus saith, "without me ye can do
nothing." Oh what a hard task tn flesh and blood to be nothing, and
to have nothing but weakness, infirmities, and corruptions, which
