Not being a typical Angelina Jolie fan, I was immensely surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I'm STILL not a fan of hers, but the non-stop action and excitement definitely had me enthralled and entertained.
Jolie plays C.I.A. agent Evelyn Salt, who gets accused of being a Russian Spy by a suitably shady Russian defector. Without knowing how valid this accusation is, her colleagues have to play it by the book and get to the bottom of it all. But when she goes on the run to clear her name, everyone seemes convinced of her guilt.
What may seem like a straight-forward action yarn with cliched plot mechanics actually turns out to be quite an intelligent and gripping thriller. Very little predictability coupled with loads of explosive and inventive action scenes help to propel the movie along keeping you on your toes throughout. Besides Jolie, the supporting performances are very good, most notably from Liev Shreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The only aspect that keeps this movie from getting a perfect rating is the sometimes-impossible feats of acrobatics that Salt employs in the beginning when she is chased through downtown streets over highways and byways. Just a tad too much "suspension of disbelief" required in those scenes, but beyond that, Salt is one adrenaline-charged adventure that provides more-than-enough "bang-for-your-buck"! Synopsis
As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor and country. But her loyalty is about to be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.
Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture.
Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who is Salt?"
