By a special invitation, he visited the Presbyterian College in Queen's Square. The London Presbytery was in session, and he was requested to remain as a "visiting member." This led to a pleasant interview with Dr. Oswald Dykes and Dr. Donald Fraser, who invited Dr. Deems to attend their annual social meeting in the Regent's Square Church. The Doctor has been solicited to furnish avolume of his sermons for publication in London after his return from the East. During his short stay in London the Doctor managed to hear Cardinal Manning, the Rev. Newman Hall, and Dr. Joseph Parker. THE REV. A. A. LIPSCOMB, D.D. OUR dear friend and devoted fellow-laborer must excuse the liberty we take with his name. He has just closed a brilliant course of lectures at Vanderbilt, on Philosophy, Criticism, and Art. Such lectures Vhen listening to his profound utterances and his singularly eloquent periods, we have felt as if we "did well to be angry" that they were not listened to by many hundreds instead of scores of entranced students. His nervous constitution, overtaxed, and yielding to the heavy pressure, made it expedient that he should leave the University before Commencement. He returns to his Georgia home--not to rest--() no he must be hidden in the grave before he will rest--but to suspend public work until September, when we hope with renewed vigor he will resume his professorial duties.
