Science and Religion - A Contradiction United (Paperback)

Based upon the author's own involvement with both science and religion, this memoir argues that the two fields need not, despite common conceptions, oppose one another. While serving as a medical missionary in Africa, the author became disillusioned with religion and returned to the United States to become a scientist. Horton later realized that a contradiction no longer exists if science is understood as a logos--a literal truth--and religion as a mythos--a metaphorical or spiritual truth. A brief history of the development of scientific and religious thought completes this original analysis of one of mankind's greatest conundrums.
