The diocefe of Hereford contains almoft the whole of the county of Hereford, the better half of Shropfhire, four parifhes in the county of Monrnouth, fix churches and chapels in the county of Montgomery, eight in the county of Radnor, and twenty-one in the county of Worcefter: under the two Archdeaconries of Hereford and Salop. Firft, Hereford, which has thefe Deanries--Hereford and Froome, Rofs, Weobley, and Wefton, in the county of Hereford; Irchingfield, in the counties of Hereford and Monmouth; Leominfter, in the counties of Hereford and Radnor. Secondly, Salop, which has the following Deanries--Burford, in the counties of Hereford, Salop, and Worcefter; Clun, in the counties of Hereford, Salop, and Radnor; Ludlow, in the counties of Hereford and Salop; Pontefbury, in the counties of Salop and Montgomery; Stottefden and Wenlock, in the county of Salop. The Bifhop of Hereford is patron of his two1 Archdeaconries, and all other dignities in his Cathedral, except the Deanry, and of thirty-four livings in his diocefe, with an alternacy of St. Mary Mounthalt's Rectory, in the city of London; alfo, in confideration of Bifhop Scory's granting away fo many manors, he pays no annual tenths to the Crown, and receives the tenths of two of his beffi Prebends, viz. Moreton Magna and Church Withington. The Bifhop has a handfome Palace near the weft end-of the Cathedral, from which there is a moft delightful view of the Wye, Rotherwas wood, Dynedor.Camp, &c. being placed in a charming fituation on the banks of the river.
