This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1900. Excerpt: ... and in his hands this treatment certainly would seem to have been most successful. Dr. Jardine injects one to two pints of sterilised water at a temperature of 100 F, to which he adds 5i of salt containing one part of potassium bicarbonate and three parts of sodium chloride. The immediate effects of such treatment are very striking, the urinary secretion increasing enormously, the pulse slowing down 20 or 30 beats, and consciousness being quickly regained. AMERICAN POCKET MEDICAL DICTIONARY. The exhaustion of a large edition of this book in a period of six months, is a certain sign that it satisfactorily meets a want of the profession. At all events it cannot be accused of incompleteness, for it contains the definitions of no less than 26,000 words connected with medicine and the kindred sciences. The dictionary also includes a certain number of tables of matters which it is often difficult to retain in the memory, such as lists and anatomical relations, etc., of the muscles, arteries, and nerves. We may further add that the printing is small enough to enable all this material to be compressed into such space that the book can be comfortably carried in the pocket. A MANUAL OF MODERN GASTRIC METHODS. The object of this book is to furnish a clear practical account of the different methods which have lately come into use for dealing with gastric conditions. There is a short chapter on Digestion, which is written rather with the view of serving as a text than to supply any special information. The next chapter deals with test meals and the withrawal of the gastric contents. American Pocket Medical Dictionary. Edited by W. A. Newman Dorland, A.M, M.D., Assistant Obstetrician to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. London: The Rebman Publishing Co....
