Buffalo Deaconess Home of the Methodist Episcopal Church for Genesee Conference was organized as a corporation May 26, 1890, with a board of eighteen trustees. The charter trustees were: Bishop John H. Vincent, Revs. Allen P. Ripley, D.D., J. E. Williams, D.D., John T. Gracey, D.D., Messrs. Francis H. Root, Joseph Kittinger, William H. Johnson, George L. Thome, Mesdames Elizabeth R. Chambers, Charlotte L. Wright, Amanda C. Minard, Fannie 0. Sweet, Martha E. Cobb, Hannah D. Farwell, Lucia J. Coppins, Alice M. Harris, Alvina Beach, Joan C. Tift. The Conference Board of Deaconesses were invited to visit the Home and inspect the plans for work, which they did, heartily approving them as organized by the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Conference, which found expression in a full report, including the following resolution: Resolved, That we hereby concur in the establishment of a Deaconess Home in the city of Buffalo, and the effort to develop in connection therewith of a Deaconess Training School. The entire report was adopted by the Genesee Conference at its session held in Bradford, Pa., October, 1890. The Home was formally opened June 10, at 108 South Division Street, a house rented for the purpose by the Methodist Episcopal Union of Buffalo, and tastefully furnished by the auxiliaries of the Woman's Home Missionary Society of Buffalo. An open house welcomed hundreds of interested friends during the day, to whom refreshments were served by the ladies of the Methodist churches. In the evening appropriate dedicatory services were held, being in charge of Bishop J. H. Vincent, Rev. J. E. Williams, D.D., Rev. W. B. Pickard, Mr. Francis H.
