The engine is of sufficient power to do all ordinary work satisfactorily without any assistance of this kind. The battery is of the ' Plante type, and a very interesting feature is the method of spring suspension. The main frame is sprung at the front, but the back portion, which is made specially strong, is practically solid with the back axle and counter-shaft. The side members are so designed as to permit of a certain amount of twist when passing over rough surfaces, and in this way may be said to act as spring radius rods. The drive from the counter shaft is by enclosed spur gearing direct to the back wheels. The body is on an upper frame, and is pivoted at tho front, and carried on long side springs from the rigid frame at. the back, being anchored to the lower frame at the centre of the back cross member. An interesting exhibit is an 85 h.p. four-cylinder engine, the dimensions of which are 185 mm. bore x 150 mm. stroke. This engine is specially intended for use on the tractor vehicle of a Renard train, but may, of course, be employed for many other purposes, as for instance, rail motor oars. The cylinders are cast in pairs, with all the valves on one sido in a slightly inclined position. The circulating pump and the high-tension magneto are gear driven from the crankshaft on the side of the engine remote from the valves, as is also the commutator of the ordinary high-tension ignition system. Lubrication is provided by a pump situated in the base chamber, and driven from a vertical shaft through a bevel gear, the top of the shaft carrying the contact breaker.
