Excerpt: ... INTELLIGENCE, &c. Evangelical Union Academy.--The thirteenth session of the Evangelical Unio11 Academy, which commenced on Tuesday, the 7th August, was brought to a close on Tuesday, the 2nd October. It had throughout been of the most agreeable and satisfactory description. The competition for the bursaries Was decided at an early part of the session; the successful candidates being, in the senior competition, Messrs. Archibald Blelloch, Alexander French, and Robert J. Gray, who carried the bui saries of 20, 12, and 8 respectively. As respects the juniors, Mr. Robert Mitchell was the only competitor; but in consideration of the superior merit of his answers in all the professions prescribed, the Academy Committee unanimously awarded him the 12 bursary, being the higher of the two. On the closing day of the session the Academy was examined on the different departments superintendep by Messrs. Scott, Ferguson, and Guthrie, in the presence of the Revs. Robt. Hunter of Catrine, and Gilbert M'Callum of Falkirk, who had been appointed examinators, and of an unusually large number of ministers and other interested brethren. At the close of the examination, important and affectionate counsels were tendered to the students by the Rev. Messrs. Ferguson, of Aberdeen, and Kirk, of Edinburgh, and by the two examinators just named; after which the bursaries were distributed to the successful competitors by the Rev. Messrs. Ferguson and Scott of Glasgow, who had conducted between them the two departments statedly superintended by Professor Morison, who is still absent, and far distant, for the sake of his health. By next session, it is fondly and earnestly hoped, Mr. Morison will have been restored to the Academy in renovated vigour.--We may take...
