Sir: Referring to my letter of November 14, transmitting thirteen (13) bounty land warrants for Delaware Indians, corresponding with list No. 1, inclosed herewith, I have now to transmit three (3) more bounty land warrants of Delaware Indians corresponding with the following list (No. 2), the receipt of which you are directed to acknowledge. Department Of The Interior, Office of Indian Affairs, Jvhj 22, 1854. Sir: I have the honor to transmit to you herewith a copy of a letter received by this office from Superintendent Drew of the 3d of June last, in which he states that he has been furnished by Capt. Black Beaver, a Delaware Indian residing in the Chickasaw country (Choctaw Nation), with a copy of a muster roll of a spy company of Indian mounted volunteers (Delawares and Shawnees) called into the service of the United States by Col. W. S. Harney for the term of six months from the 1st day of January, 1846, when discharged; that they believe themselves entitled to commutation for forage and other extras, as they received only the monthly pay and subsisted their own horses, and also that the proper quota of land or commutation in money is due them for three months' services. I respectfully call your attention to the following interrogations as proposed by Mr. Drew, viz: "Are they entitled to pay for forage, etc., and anything over and above their monthly pay which has been received," and suggest that the Secretary of War be requested to furnish such information as will enable this office to give Mr. Drew a satisfactory answer to his inquiries.
