Based on the 1980 Tamil film of the same name starring Rajnikanth, as well as the 2006-released Bollywood film, Don, it was adapted by the director, who rewrote portions of the film from the original. Ajith Kumar and Nayantara played the lead roles while Prabhu Ganesan, Namitha, Rahman, Adithya and Santhanam were also part of the cast.
