Excerpt: Jim Cashman (born April 30, 1971 in Fort Erie, Ontario) is a former minor professional and semi-pro ice hockey player, coach and executive. Cashman played in Bakersfield, California in the Pacific Southwest Hockey League with the Bakersfield Oilers and then the following season with the Bakersfield Fog of the West Coast Hockey League. Cashman also played for the Russian Red Army in the WCHL. Cashman was the first non-Russian ever to play for the Russian Red Army team. The following season Cashman played Sr. AAA hockey for the Ohsweken Riverhawks in Ohsweken, Ontario and stayed for 2 seasons. In 1999 Cashman played for the Tulsa Oilers in Tulsa, OK of the Central Hockey League. Cashman started the semi-pro Gulf Coast Hockey League in 2001 and settled into Little Rock, Arkansas. After the September 11 attacks, his investors and sponsors backed out fearing a recession and he was forced to hand the league over to the remaining teams. In 2003 Cashman started the North Eastern Hockey League, which was a semi-pro ice hockey league in the northeastern United States of America. Cashman as Founder was also the President from 2003 until the league ceased operations on January 23, 2008. Cashman was the owner, coach and captain of the York IceCats franchise. He was the IceCats and NEHL all time leader in goals, assists and points. Cashman was chosen league MVP in 2003-04 by League Director of Media Relations, John Guy after winning the scoring race by 19 points and was a First Team All-Star in 2003-04 and 2006-07.
