This fourth installment in the Terminator series has alot of hindrances to overcome: no James Cameron in the directing chair, no Arnold Schwarzenegger in the starring line-up, and a convoluted time travel thread running through the plot which becomes even more confusing the more you think about it. But even with all these odds stacked against it, Terminator: Salvation still manages to be a rollicking blockbuster adventure.
This latest adventure focusses on a grown-up John Connor, in 2018, fighting for the Resistance. He's searching for someone in particular, namely a young Kyle Reece. If you know your Terminator lore, you'll know who he is. Connor needs to find him to protect him him, because the Machines are looking to capture Reece for their own dastardly reasons. Plus, there's a mysterious "drifter" who can't remember how he ended up in 2018, and he soon becomes a pivotal part of Connor and Reece's lives.
The action is top-notch, and the movie features some bruising yet exciting man vs. machine battles. The visual effects are extraordinary and it's amazing what CGI can accomplish these days. There are some scenes which may seem reminiscent of the Transformers movies, and the plot does become a bit "what the..." at times, but it's still a worthy entry in the Terminator franchise, and it certainly has machismo and excitement in bucketloads. (4 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)

Synopsis
Judgment Day has come and gone. The artificial intelligence network Skynet controls the army of Terminators that roam the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans where they hide in the desolate cities and deserts.
Only one man saw Judgment Day coming. One man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor. Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life.
But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger from the past whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world.
