He was an idef atigable collector and succeeded in procuring some of the rarest birds ver found in this area. His knowledge of birds was far greater than his few published works rould indicate. An incomplete list of these writings is included in Bailey's Birds of New Mexico," a book based partially on the Kellogg Collection ow deposited in the Cincinnati Society of Natural History. This collection 3 evidence of his ornithological knowledge and remains as a splendid ribute to his chosen avocation. Kellogg was extraordinarily adept in the preparation of both ornitho- ogical and entomological specimens. Although he was interested principally n ornithology, his interest in entomology was stimulated by his association vith Charles Dury, eminent Cincinnati naturalist, and he collected and repared some of the rare species of Coleoptera that occur in New Mexico. Cellogg discovered a species of snail-eating beetle in New Mexico and in lis honor, Charles Dury named it Cychrus kelloggi. A small but very ine collection of his Coleoptera was left to the Museum. He received no academic training for his scientific work, going into business immediately after finishing high school. The foundation of his interest was laid when, as a child, he ranged the open country around his home in Avondale, a suburb of Cincinnati. While...
