This collection of new studies explores the diverse ways in which
music -- and ideas about it -- have been disseminated in print and
other media from the sixteenth century onward. The chapters look
afresh at the circulation of manuscript and printed music in the
seventeenth to nineteenth centuries and reach forward to the
present by considering how rapidly changing technologies influence
the realms of popular music and jazz.
