At the close of the year it was necessary to discontinue the compilation of the monograph on commercial aeronautics, despite its proven value, in order to devote the necessary time and attention to the military monograph. LIBRARY DIVISION. The greater part of aeronautical information on file in the library is contained in documents and pamphlets, a great many of which have been compiled by the divisions of the Information Group and by the Engineering Division of the Supply Group. During this fiscal year the Library Division has added to its files in round numbers 10,000 documents, 1,300 books and 31,000 pictures. Of these pictures, 24,000 are of scenes and subjects overseas. In addition, 2,858 new books have been supplied to Air Service stations outside Washington. This division maintains a reading room in charge of personnel trained in library work and in the answering of references. REPRODUCTION DIVISION. An unusual activity of the Reproduction Division during the year has consisted of work in connection with supplying information to Congress. The production of maps for cross-country flights has been well handled by the division. From original maps tracings are made containing only such topographical features as are easily recognizable from the air. Photostats of these tracings are then prepared.. This results in a better map and at a cost lower than if the original map were supplied to pilots. DISSEMINATION DIVISION. While much of the information distributed by the Dissemination Division consists of printed documents and similar publications, many requests are received for matter that must be originally prepared either from information available in the Library Division or from...
