Volume 2 -- Biomaterials and Tissues Engineering for the 21st Century. This is a critical appraisal of the evolution of biomaterials, medical devices and tissue engineering, an assessment of current technologies and a personal view of future developments. In particular the volume details the changes that have taken place during the 25 years with respect to materials, technology, the deeper understanding of biocompatability and the regulatory, societal, legal and ethical constraints. This volume also looks forward to future generations of medical devices and tissue engineered products on the basis of the clinical opportunities offered and the interaction of materials science and cell and molecular biology.
