Dead Or Alive 2 (PlayStation 2, Digital)

DOA was released on Sega Saturn in Japan and was quite faithful to the arcade version. The PlayStation version, however, looks completely different from the coin-op original. The first thing that will catch your eye in DOA (when compared to the arcade original) is that the visuals look very similar to that of Tekken. Gone are the spectacular 3D backgrounds of the original, instead they have been replaced by boring and distant Tekken-style 2D backgrounds. Despite this, the actual characters (all nine of 'em) look much better than the in the arcade. Beautiful light sourcing effects are used and the fighters look much smoother than the blocky arcade. Speaking of the nine characters, none of them are particularly impressive. They are all familiar fighting game stereotypes that we've seen in all the other beat 'em ups. There's the tough old man, ninja, a few busty chicks, a wrestler and the over-exposed karate expert.
