Formula, LiC, H5O2 = 127.11.--A light, white powder, or small, shining, crystalline scales, odorless or of a faint benzoin-like odor, and a cooling, sweet taste; permanent in air. It is soluble in 3 parts of water, and 13 parts of alcohol. Aqueous solutions have an alkaline reaction to litmus paper. Dose.--0.3 to 2 Gm.; 5 to 30 grains. (See also Acidum Benzoicum.) Bromidum (Lithium Bromide). Formula, LiBr = 86.34.--A white, granular, deliquescent salt, having a. sharp, slightly bitter taste. It is soluble in 0.6 part of water, freely soluble in alcohol. Dose.--0.6 to 4 Gm.; 10 to 60 grains. (See also Bromides.) Lithii Carbonas (Lithium Carbonate). Li2CO3=73.51.--A light, white powder, permanent in air, and having an alkaline taste. It is soluble in 75 parts of water, more soluble in water saturated with carbon dioxide, less soluble in boiling water than in cold, and insoluble Citras (Lithium Citrate). Formula, Li3C, H5O, + 4H2O = 280.08.--A white powder, or colorless crystals; deliquescent on exposure to moist air, and having a cooling, faintly alkaline taste. It is soluble in 2 parts of water; almost insoluble in alcohol. Dose.--0.3 to 1.2 Gm.; 5 to 20 grains. Lithii Citras Eflervescens (Efi'ervescent Lithium Citrate).--A white, granular preparation, deliquescent upon exposure to moist atmosphere; soluble in water with effervescence. It contains 5 per cent. of Lithium Citrate intimately mixed with Tartaric Acid, Citric Acid, and Sodium Bicarbonate. Dose.--4 to 15 Gm.; 1 to 4 5. Salicylas (Lithium Salicylate).
