Part Erma Bombeck, part Edna Buchanan, Elaine Viets has written the
second mystery in the St, Louis-based Francesca Vierling series,
which kicks off at the Harley Owners Group's annual Leather and
Francesca Vierling is back. Fresh from her debut in Backstab
(Dell, 10/97), Francesca is enjoying a well-deserved evening on the
town at St. Louis's own Leather and Lace Ball -- an annual event
sponsored by the South Side HOGs (Harley Owners Group) -- when
socialite Sydney Vander Venter, one of the local RUBs (Rich Urban
Bikers), turns up dead in the alley behind the Ballroom. Sydney may
not have been one of Francesca's most devoted readers, but
Francesca knows a good story when she sees one, and as she begins
to explore the two very different worlds of St. Louis's upper-crust
society on the one hand and the insular South Side HOGs on the
other, Francesca must face the possibility that the murderer may be
closer than she wants to believe.
