Everett True grew up on a farm in Salisbury, MA. After high school he went to University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge School studying Horticulture. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Devens, MA, January, 1942 and sent to Fort Eustis, VA for Basic Training. He then went to Camp Stewart, GA in April, shipped to Los Angeles where he became a truck driver. He was transferred to Combat Engineers, Fort Ord and shipped to Kiska, Aleutian Island as 1st Machine Gunner. He was in "C" Company 110th Engineer Combat Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. Everett's next stop was Hawaii where he learned to operate a Caterpillar. In October 1944, he landed on Leyte, Philippines where he drove his "CAT" building roads for his platoon. In March, his platoon landed on Okinawa. After the war, the battalion was ordered to Korea on a Navy cargo ship. A few days later, they entered San Francisco Bay and docked at Oakland Army Base. He was discharged in Fort Devens, MA in 1945. Medals earned were: ARMY GOOD CONDUCT, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN, ASIATIC PACIFIC CAMPAIGN, WORLD WAR II VICTORY, ARMY OF OCCUPATION, WWII. He was awarded the RIFLE MARKSMAN SHOOTING BADGE and DRIVER-W BADGE. Everett married Judith Brooks in 1948 in Westwood, MA. She was a Wellesley College graduate, Class of 1938. Judith was a 1st Lieutenant in the US ARMY serving Stateside from 1945-1948. They had one daughter, Christine, one grandson, Daniel, and a great granddaughter, Sara. Everett's accomplishments were: house and boat builder, florist, painter, licensed engineer, writer and avid sailor.
