Excerpt: ... CHAPTER VI THE MARBLES OF PICKENS COUNTY Pickens county is, at present, really the only marble-producing county in the State. The value of the deposits, here, has long been known; but only of recent years have they been worked on an extensive scale. A number of companies are now operating in the vicinity of Tate, each of which makes annually large shipments of stone, for both building and ornamental purposes.
