The Day America Stopped (Paperback)

The large clock on the wall read 1100 hours and nothing happened. It was as if no one was breathing. The satellite images were coming in at close to real time. "Well, anything, anything at all?" the president asked, shattering the silence. The agent at the keyboard looked up and then back down to the keys. "No, sir. Nothing, everything looks normal." "Can you show me the nuclear sites, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Capitol and all the major targets?" The agent at the keyboard tapped some keys and the image got bigger. He noticed the traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge was at a standstill. "I don't see any trucks moving. Didn't you say that the people on that list had commercial driver's licenses? Show me the rest of the state. Are any of the trucks moving?" The images started changing to square off major parts of California. The rest of the major highways were at a standstill as well. The president stood beside the director of Homeland Security, and the two men glanced at each other with a look of helplessness. "I want that damn confirmation now." The voice was near a panic. "Confirmed, sir. All semi-trucks are stalled except for three, but I don't understand what the concern is about. So the trucks are stopped, so?"
