Can it be that our dear comrade Austin C. Wellington is dead? Yes, for with bowed head and hearts full of sorrow we followed him to his last camping ground upon this earth. We heard the volleys and the bugle call, and dropped our tears into his open grave. Farewell, our comrade, bravely hast thou fought the battle of life, honor and the loving remembrance of all thy Comrades shall be thy everlasting crown. A. C. STONE, E. STEARNS, M. SILLARS, Committee. M. P. WALKER, J The reports show that three hundred and sixteen other comrades of our Department have also been summoned to answer the final roll call. They may not have been among the great captains of the war, but they were soldiers who did their duty, be it ever so humble, and as such let us give them equal place in our remembrance. CONCLUSION. Comrades, you have little idea of the vast amount of labor required in transacting the business of this Department; and I specially commend to you the various officials who have so earnestly endeavored to faithfully discharge the duties which have devolved upon them, and to whom I am largely indebted for whatever of success has attended my efforts during the year. To our splendid Assistant Adjutant-General, A. C. Monroe; the Assistant Quartermaster-General, Ephraim Stearns; the Judge-Advocate, A. C. Stone; the Inspector, John H. Cook, who succeeded the lamented Wellington, and, though assuming his duties at a late hour, has performed them to my entire satisfaction; the Chief Mustering Officer, Joseph B.
