See ss. 193, 194. Except as provided in s. 477, Sessions Judges can only try cases committed to them by Magistrates. The High Court exercises appellate jurisdiction over the Province. The original jurisdiction of the Calcutta High Court is confined to the town of Calcutta. But see ss. 447, 456, 526. 29. Any offence under any other law shall, when any Offences under other Court is mentioned in this behalf in laws. such law, be tried by such Court. When no Court is so mentioned, it may be tried by the High Court or by any Court constituted under this Code: Provided that ? (a.) no Magistrate of the first class shall try any such offence which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may exceed seven years; (6) no Magistrate of the second class shall try any such offence which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years; and (c) no Magistrate of the third class shall try any such offence which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year. The Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice has jurisdiction over all offences committed in India or the Colonies which render the offender liable to be tried in England under 11 Will.
