He is head of the Police, and acts to a limited extent as Magistrate; the term is current in the countries subject to the Mahrattas. PRAJABHAG, the share of the produce assigned to the cultivator. PRAJAVAT, a quit-rent; a cess levied by Zemindars npon the ryots on festive occasions, as at marriages; a house-tax levied by the Zemindars upon the inhabitants of a village, not cultivators, for the ground on which their houses stand; ground-rent. PRAKARSHIT, surplus produce of a thing pledged for usufruct above the interest of the loan, which is to be re-paid to the borrower. PRAPANCHARTHA, land exempted from revenue attached to some secular function, as that of Potel, or any village officer, or for the purpose of keeping up useful constructions, as reservoirs or embankments, &c.
