She had not remained young enough in her heart to remember clearly the tremendous difference between those ages. Therefore Peter addressed his conversation to Daisy while he had the chance. "I say " he began gleefully. "I saw a robin just before I came out, and he told me he'd had three fat worms for his breakfast. He said they didn't skirm when you asherly got them inside." "Peter " exclaimed Mrs. Johnstone, who unfortunately overheard. "Please don't say what is not true, dear." "But the robin did tell me that, Auntie Ellen," said the little boy, his round face setting in obstinate curves. "Now, Peter, if you persist in saying that, I shall have to give up buying those sweets that we are going to buy." But he stuck his chin into his miniature scarf and muttered once more: "The robin did tell me." Daisy opened her mouth to defend him; then she chanced to see Sim in the distance going home to dinner. After all, you couldn't let Peter grow up to be like Sim So she said nothing; only kept tight hold of the little warm hand while Mrs. Johnstone reiterated the remark about the chocolates, and added that a promised train might also be endangered.
