Une etude de l'histoire du jazz en Tunisie montre une receptivite autochtone vis-a-vis les cultures d'autrui et devoile certains effets de la globalisation de la musique, de provenance orientale et occidentale. Ce phenomene, ayant ensuite fait l'objet d'une etude statistique, sous-tend de nouvelles tendances d'ecoute, d'apprentissage et de pratiques musicales hybrides chez les jeunes musiciens locaux. L'analyse d'improvisations faites par de jeunes interpretes montre un discours particulierement acculture, revelateur d'un certain disfonctionnement tonal de l'appareil didactique local, mais au demeurant rattache a une identite culturelle modale endogene. Enfin, la derniere partie de l'ouvrage se consacre a l'etude d'un processus de metissage experimente. L'analyse d'une musique du 'udiste/compositeur Anouar Brahem devoile un processus creatif original et conceptuel, base sur une fusion musicale multi-referentielle, subtile et coherente. Ce processus, synonyme de diversite culturelle, est toutefois entrave par des enjeux de communication et de reduction esthetique"
