S1r Kn1ghts: It having been deemed advisable and very important to the membership of the Kn1ghts Of The Maccabees to have published in book form a brief history of the Order, from its re-organization to the present time, the compiler undertook, with some doubt as to his ability, to perform the task, and so far as t1e has gone has spared no pains to make the volume not only an interesting one for the present membership, but one which all, in the future, can consult with pleasure and profit. A brief sketch of the ancient Maccabees, from whose history and traditions the Society derives its name is given by the author; also an interesting sketch by Sir Knight J. S. 'Ayres, Past Great Commander of Michigan; then follows a brief history of our present organization; following this will be found an interesting address by the Rev. Chas. L. Smith, of Pittsburgh, Penn.; also an address by Sir Knight J. C. Predmore, Past Commander, Orion, Mich.; a full account of the great Maccabee Jubilee held in Port Huron, August 14th, 188S; the reception and banquet tendered the Supreme Tent officers during the Biennal session of the Supreme Tent, February 12th, 1889, and also other historical matter. Portraits and biographical sketches of the principal officers and workers in the Order are also given, and will no doubt interest the membership. If all will carefully read and study the historical and biographical sketches and the important events narrated, they will find much to interest and instruct them, should they desire to obtain a better and a fuller knowledge of the Order of The Kn1ghts Of The Maccabees of modern times and the record the Society has made since its organization.
