Not illustrated. 1906 Excerpt: ...THE PORCUPINE We Introduced the scarifier in this country, patented it, and named it the "Porcupine." Imitators sprang up--attempted Chinese copies but missed the main point, as the imitator generally does. THE "PORCUPINE" is improved to a degree where we know it will go beyond anything we say of it. It is spoken of as follows by a prominent New York State contractor in answering a follow contractor's inquiry (the writer's name may be had for the asking): ' Angworlng your letter of the 17th, I beg to say that we used the Porcupine' for a large Job of work here in, and It was a great success. It will do the work of a hundred men. We used It In taking off the top of a trench In which wo had to lay telephone wires. In some places the macadam was as thick a- 10 or 12 Inches. We cut a single furrow the width of the 'Porcupine." We found after we had acquired some experience with the machine that we could cut as deep as 7 or 8 Inches at a cut, although the manufacturers did not say It would cut more than 4 inches deep. After making a cut we would clear out the stone and go back over the same cut again until we got through the macadam. The macadam was extremely hard, the street having been laid for years. The rock here is of a cement quality and Is verv hard. We do not know of any other way In which we could have accomplished this work so successfully and at such a great saving."' The above illustrates only one use of the "Porcupine." It is pre-eminently a machine for use in re-surfacing or repairing old macadam pavement. Every contractor owning a steam roller should have a "PORCUPINE." Send for Circular. --um Manufacturers also of THE UNIVERSAL STEAM ROAD ROLLERS-two and three wheel THE RELIANCE STE...
