The long-unpublished debut novel by M.B. Scrutchin, "Nightmare Mansion" was inspired by the '90s YA Horror novels of Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine. Written in 1995 when Scrutchin was a 14-year-old high-school freshman, it's the first book in the Emerald Valley Horror series of scary stories set in the teenage-wasteland suburbia of Emerald Valley, whose sunny "Anytown, USA" facade hides unspeakable horror lurking just below the surface.
