Clients have realised the high cost of repairs to structures required because of durability problems. They are therefore looking for construction companies to maintain (as well as design and build) the structure for a certain time after construction. This has placed a high burden on the construction companies as they can no longer bid on the cheapest solution; they need to consider the long term durability of the structure so as to avoid spending their profits on repairs.
