To Attendant: "Go back to my father's palace, dear heart, for glad am I that I came out beyond the walls. I have found Love and with him will I journey through the world." PEGASUS AND THE GROCERY CLERK They sing of the violet, lily and rose, Of the daisy and sweet mignonette, But far as I know, there ain't nobody writ Any veg'table poetry yet. Tomatoes is pretty, and rosy, and round; The color of carrots is fine. Peas, beans and asparagus surely looks nice, And deserves a poetical line. The blue-green of cabbage, no artist kin beat. Then, speaking of beat, there's the beet. I've seen a cooked dish just the color of wine, Thet looked most too handsome to eat. Of course, I'll concede that the onion has faults, And ain't hand in hand with the muse, But a place in my song, to celery white, You surely will never refuse. Oh, then write of the flowers, if you desire, That's poetry, everyone knows; 111 sing of the winder, where water drips cool On the veg'tables, fixed all in rows.
