After the disappointing Despicable Me, I wasn't expecting much from Megamind which arrived soon after. From the outset, it seemed to cover the same ground: a bad guy/evil genius who discovers the goodness inside himself and finds that he ain't that bad. But Megamind definitely impressed! It had a smarter storyline, non-stop laughs and just an overall more likable feel to it.
Metro City is the setting for the never-ending battles between the superhero Metro Man and his arch-enemy Megamind. They've enjoyed all the sparring and rivalry, but when Megamind's latest threat to the city brings an end to Metro Man, he finds himself finally able to rule the city with a not-so-iron fist. But boredom soon sets in and Megamind realizes he needs a "hero" - someone who can keep things "exciting" for him. So he "creates" his own hero, but things soon get out of hand as he realizes his creation is beyond control. That's the basic setup for the energetic, fun breakdown of the superhero mould. There's a brilliant romance angle as well which only adds to the witty dialogue.
Will Ferrell voices Megamind, Tina Fey voices his love interest, and the brilliant David Cross (the hilariously camp Tobias from Arrested Development) supplies the most laughs as Megamind's sidekick in this brilliant animated adventure that's perfect for the whole family!
