Modeling Integrated Biological Systems - A Primer in the Computation of Cellular and Development Processes (Hardcover)

,
This book is a two-way introduction: it is a first description of cell biology for computer science and physics students who have shied away from the complexity of biological systems; and it attempts to gently leads to computer programming and simulations biologists who are becoming more proficient in modeling, and who feel the old methods of analysis and reasoning in biology are becoming superseded by the complexity of interacting cellular pathways. Once the elementary processes are mastered, some examples of integrative modeling are described; while the nonlinearity of the relevant network of interactions will be relatively familiar to physicists; to molecular biologists, however, the richness that can be expected from such interactions will be a relatively new but, hopefully, soon indispensable tool. USP: -First book on numerical modeling of the cell -Intended for biophysicists, physicists, computer scientists, and cell biologists alike -Exemplary modeling in C++ for cell development -Written at the graduate level and suitable for a course
