He thought he would have another chat with Tim alone, and persuade him to change his mind. He did so at an early opportunity, but Tim was adamant. He declared there was no danger for Wild Eose. "It's not as though she was a novice at the game, Mr. Dale," he said. "She's a good horsewoman, and you know it. She has a nerve better than most men, and her courage is undeniable. She has everything in her favour, and she'll win the race on Dead Shot. That will be the height of her ambition, you see if it is not. Why, Mr. Dale, I believe Wild Rose would sooner lose half her fortune than miss the chance of riding Dead Shot to victory in the Grand National Steeplechase."
