The engineers must start very early, so as to have plenty of time for the work to be done by them. Definite orders should be given that the Field Company R.E. be accompanied by all its wagons, including 2nd line transport. I should designedly abstain from indicating to the officer commanding the field company any particular localities where the road should be blocked, but leave it to his discretion, as he will be better able to decide on the spot. His attention can be directed by word of mouth to the intention we have of offering a somewhat protracted resistance near Gravelotte, and again near Vronville. The several commanding officers are informed upon the general situation only so far as is absolutely necessary. I. OPERATION ORDER No. 10 C'& No BY Major-grnerai. C, Commanding 3RD Infantry Brigade. Reference: STE. RUFFINE, TT55?5TO 0rdn-4-8.00. 1. The 7, rd Brigade will be ready to start from STE. RUFFINE to-morrow at 5.15 a.m. 2. The 2nd Line Transport oi the brigade will be formed up at the western outskirts of STE. RUFFINE at 3.15 a.m. to-morrow. 3. The 1 st Field Company R.E. will march with all its transport at 3.15 a.m. to-morrow by GRAVELOTTE on HANNONVILLE-AU-PASSAGE. It will take along with it the 2nd line transport of the 3rd Brigade as far as the western outskirts of GRAVELOTTE, handing it then over there to the officer in charge of the rest of the 2nd line transport of the detachment.
