It follows up the band's fourth studio album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!, with the entire album composed and written by lead vocalist Brendon Urie. It is the band's first album to not feature percussionist Spencer Smith and also follows bass guitarist Dallon Weekes' departure from the official line-up, subsequently becoming a touring member once again.
