Development Indicators for Promoting Good Governance in Kwazulu-Natal, Vol 1 - Research Findings (Paperback, Re-issue)

The research findings presented in this, the first volume of a comprehensive report on development indicators for KwaZulu-Natal, are the partial culmination of many years' planning, negotiation and fieldwork. The ultimate goal of the study was to establish a development database in order to provide a comprehenseve picture of the needs of the people of KwaZulu-Natal, catering for "objective" and "subjective" indications of needs. This report contains the findings of a household survey conducted during November and December 1996 involving a total of 6,500 households throughout the province. It followed a pilot study of perceptions of development conducted among 678 adults in October 1995. this is the first large survey covering the usual "hard" indicators such as the level of services and people's perceptions of these services, and of their governments' priorities, The survey and analyses are essential reading for policy makers, planners and other practitioners involved in socio-economic development, as well as for academics, researchers and students in development-related fields, such as planning, economics, sociology and demography.
