The heavy breeds when held to their maximum lay will eaeh eat in one year: 19 pounds dry oats, germinated. 36 pounds corn and wheat scratch. 18 quarts milk. 22 pounds dry mash, including the wet mash. 31/2 pounds shell. 26 pounds kale besides the green pasture and lawn clippings. We were very glad of the opportunity to make these accurate computations on a rather large number of birds of many different breeds, a11d were surprised that the old text book amounts of 25 pounds each of oats, grain and mash did not coincide with the actual consumption. The flock records made in the second contest, November 1st, 1920 to October 31, 1921, will probably stand for some time to come. The weather was ideal and the succulent green food supply was unfailing. The Leghorn entries had a large percentage of pens from a few of the most expert breeders and pickers of layers which this old world has ever produced. Everything was favorable for maximum production. There are a few individuals in the present contest and perhaps three pens which are still possible record makers. but it now appears that we have approached the maximum possibilities of flock production as birds are now bred, until more efiicient equipment and more scientific distribution of the necessary feeds is developed by perhaps some member of the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF POUL'l'R'.'
