S. court was ordered by the Commissioners of Prisons to be transferred to the Reformatory Prison for Women; but, objection being made by the United States authorities, the sheriff declined to serve the order of removal, and the prisoner still remains in custody in Barnstable. Later in this report will be found a recommendation upon this subject, as in the opinion of this Board the question of authority should be definitely settled. In the following table the offences and sentences of the convicted prisoners committed to this institution by order of the courts of this State and of the United States are set forth: --BERKSHIRE COUNTY. The average number, however, was exactly the same.
