The 149th Pennsylvanias first action was at Gettysburg on July 1,
1963; its brilliant defense of McPhersons farm was to be the units
legacy. Through service records, pension files, casualty records,
diaries, letters, muster rolls and other primary sources, the
development of the regiment is revealed, focusing on how the unit
and its men changed during the course of the war.
