This is yet another spoof from the "hit-and-miss" Wayans clan, who were previously responsible for Don't Be A Menace...
; Scary Movie 1 & 2
, Little Man
and White Chicks
. This time around, they're poking fun at the recent onslaught of dance movies, such as High School Musical; Step Up; Fame; You Got Served;
and even a dig at Twilight
. The plot strand it resembles the most though, is Save The Last Dance
, and you had to have seen that (and the aforementioned dance movies) to enjoy the jokes and fun that gets made at their expense.
The performances are from a mostly unknown cast, and they handle their duties admirably. Plus, there are some cameos from the Wayans family, like Kim, Damon, Marlon, Shawn all popping up in various, and hilarious scenes
Thankfully, this "flick" is a major improvement over the recent spoofs from Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the directors who've brought us the totally unfunny Epic Movie; Superhero Movie; Date Movie; Meet The Spartans... blah blah blah. So while it may not be able to compare to the classic spoofs of the 80's and 90's, Dance Flick is at least able to provide quite a few decent laughs. (3 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
is a hilarious new comedy that brings together the talents of two generations of the Wayans family, the explosively funny clan who brought us the Scary Movie
franchise and White Chicks
, as well as the groundbreaking TV series In Living Color
In Dance Flick, a young street dancer, Thomas Uncles, from the wrong side of the tracks and a beautiful young woman, Megan White, are brought together by their passion for dancing and put to the test in the mother of all dance battles.
