It was written by band members: Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, Heidi Range, and Brian Higgins, Miranda Cooper, Tim Powell, Nick Coler, Shawn Lee, Lisa Cowling, Bob Bradley of the Xenomania team. It was also produced by Higgins and Xenomania. The song was released as the group's fifteenth official single and third single from Taller in More Ways on 6 March 2006 by Island Records. Sugababes collaborated with the Xenomania team on a number of tracks, of which "Red Dress" was one of two of the tracks chosen for their fourth studio album.
