But the Office-bearers in any Christian community, whe ther large or small, are servants of the Church, which is God's house: and whatever service they may render to the members of his family, the Lord considers as rendered to himself. Hence it ought to be regarded as the highest honor that a man can enjoy upon Earth, to be called to fill an otficial station in the Church of the living God: and those who fulfil the duties of their station aright, from pure and proper motives, shall be acknowledged hereafter as faithful servants, and " enter into the joy of their Lord." There is no other way in which our love to the Lord JEsus cnRIsT can be shewn, but by attending to his commands, and by promoting the interests of his Church, and the welfare of his people. Where these are neglected, there may be the form of Religion, but not the power, --the name of Christian, but not the reality--the leaves of profession, hut not the fruit of faith. O what will not a man do for his Benefactor What will not a servant do for the master whom he respects and loves What will not a subject do for the prince who acts as the father of his country, and whose rule of Government is the law of perfect reetitude So what service can be too hard for Christians to render to him who is at once their most bountiful Benefactor, their heavenly Master, and their glorious Lord and King?
