A eourse on the study of Civil History and Antiquities; attainments prerequisite for that study, observations on historieal writers, rules and adviees for seeuring the greatest sum of advantage from the pursuit, and an inquiry into the objeets most interesting to a Christian divine, to whieh the study of history should he rendered subservient. The preeeding statement may be eonsidered as a fair speeimen of the usual eourse of study pursued in the best regulated of our Dissenting Colleges. The subjeet of the preeeding memoirs reeeived his edueation in the truly respeetable Aeademy at Hoxton: --over that instir.ition the Rev. Robert Simpson, the Rev. Henry Forster Burder, A. M. aud, the Rev. Hooper, A. M. preside with distinguished ability. In these respeetive Aeademies, publie examinations are annually held, in whieh a elose and eritieal inquiry is made into the diligenee--the aequirements, and the eonduet of eaeh student. I should be happy to present a statement of the system adopted in that exeellent institution, but I am not furnished With materials for the purpose. Sueh a statement was not deemed neeessary by those of whom I requested information. I think it of importanee to mention this, lest 1 should be eonsidered as partial, in giving so minute a detail of the eourse at Homerton, and saying so little of the plans pursued at Hoxton. / No. II.
