Titus Burckhardt (1908-1984) was a leading member of the "traditionalist" or "perennialist" school of comparative religious thought, well-known for its espousal of the "transcendent unity of religions." Burckhardt was also an expert on Islam, Islamic arts and crafts, and its spiritual dimension, Sufism. He worked for many years as a Unesco expert helping to preserve the historic old city of Fez, Morocco. His masterpiece, Art of Islam: Language and Meaning, was originally requisitioned for the prestigious World of Islam Festival in London in 1976 and is presented by World Wisdom in a fully revised edition containing 285 new illustrations.
