In this family adventure Peter Davis, a scriptwriter from Los Angeles, is sent on an expedition to South Africa where he needs to do research for his latest film script. Due to his estranged relationship with his 12-year-old son, Daniel, he decides to take him with on the adventure. Daniel sees this as an opportunity to connect with his father.

Soon after landing in Cape Town, South Africa their luggage is accidentally switched, leaving them without money and passports and they are left stranded in Africa. They are assisted by a friendly cashier and after an eye opening taxi ride experience through the townships, they end up in a scrap-yard, where the owner, Jabo, allows them to sleep in an old run-down trailer scheduled to be crushed in 3 days’ time.

Daniel soon befriends Jabo's son, Asanda, who teaches him how to engage his imagination and travel to new worlds. The boys embark on an imaginative journey through different worlds in order to seek the “ultimate story”, which Daniel believes is the key to help his father.
