Upper Monongahela district.--This is the district that has at times been named the Northern district, but in view of the fact that most of the coke is produced on the Upper Monongahela river, a better name would be the Upper Monongahela district, though it is frequently known as the Fairmont district. It includes the ovens on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad aud its branches at or near Fairmont and Clarksburg, West Virginia.
